Shilajit, a natural resin found in the Himalayas, has been prized for its medicinal properties for centuries. Composed mainly of humic substances and minerals, shilajit is recognised for its potential to boost energy, enhance cognitive function, and promote anti-ageing benefits. Research suggests that shilajit aids in mitochondrial function, which helps improve energy levels and endurance. Additionally, studies have shown its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, contributing to overall vitality and improved immune function. Its adaptogenic properties also support stress management and mental clarity, making it a powerful supplement for both physical and mental health.

Studies in clinical settings suggest that shilajit may raise testosterone levels considerably, especially in men who are experiencing health problems like low testosterone or infertility. Taking 200 mg of purified shilajit daily for 90 days increased total testosterone levels by about 23.5%, according to a well-known study involving infertile men. Improvements in sperm count, motility, and general reproductive health were also noted in the study. Men who took 250 mg of shilajit twice daily for 90 days showed significant increases in both free and total testosterone, as well as dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEAS), in comparison to the placebo group in another randomised, placebo-controlled trial. Key gonadotropic hormone regulators of testosterone, such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), were maintained at stable levels during the achievement of these effects.

Clinical research supporting the effects of shilajit on testosterone levels. A notable randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in 2016, where 200 mg of purified shilajit was administered twice daily for 90 days to infertile men. This study observed a significant increase in total testosterone levels by 23.5% in the shilajit group compared to the placebo group, along with improvements in sperm count and motility.

Another clinical study in 2015 found that men who took shilajit showed increases in both total and free testosterone levels, indicating its potential role in supporting male reproductive health.

These studies highlight shilajit's potential to improve testosterone levels, particularly in men with reproductive issues. However, more large-scale studies are necessary to further validate these findings across different populations.

Pandit, S., et al. (2015) - This study evaluated the effects of purified shilajit on testosterone levels in infertile men. It showed a significant increase in total testosterone levels (23.5%) and improvements in sperm quality after 90 days of supplementation. Published in Journal of Medicinal Food, DOI: 10.1089/jmf.2015.0022,

Biswas, S., et al. (2016) - Another clinical trial published in Andrologia confirmed similar results, showing that men who consumed 250 mg of shilajit twice daily for 90 days had notable improvements in total and free testosterone, as well as other reproductive markers.
